The DC Board of Medicine regulates the practice of medicine and, with the advice of advisory committees, the practice of acupuncture and physician assistants. The Board evaluates applicants' qualifications; recommends regulations, standards, and procedures; and issues licenses. The Board also requests investigations, conducts hearings, implements disciplinary and/or remedial action where indicated, and prepares an annual report for the Mayor. Members file personal financial disclosure statements.
The Board consists of eleven DC residents appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the council: seven physicians licensed in DC, who must have been engaged in practice for at least three years preceding appointment; three non-physician consumer members; and one Director of the Department of Health. Licenses expire on December 31 of even years. |
